The trip to Copenhagen was totally spontanious – I only booked my flights one week in advance. Luckily it’s September now and many good deals can be found – so flights weren’t expensive. Unfortunately I cannot say the same about the whole stay in Copenhagen as – just like the rest of Scandinavia – it’s definitely not a cheap place. Still, long weekend there was definitely worth it. In today’s post you’ll find my impressions, tips and tricks and many photos from the Danish capital.
Wyprawa do Kopenhagi była całkiem spontaniczna – zarezerwowałam loty jedynie tydzień wcześniej. Na szczęście mamy wrzesień i da się znaleźć naprawdę dobre opcje – loty nie były więc drogie. Niestety nie mogę powiedzieć tego samego o całym pobycie w Kopenhadze, bo – tak jak i cała Skandynawia – nie jest to tanie miejsce. Ale i tak warto było spędzić tam długi weekend. W dzisiejszym wpisie dzielę się moimi wrażeniami, wskazówkami oraz mnóstwem zdjęć z duńskiej stolicy.
Bicycle city
Bikes all around Copenhagen: at any time and weather – that’s what impressed me most there! Very few places in the world prioritise bike-friendly innovation as much as Copenhagen does, where the city has invested 150 million US dollars in cycling infrastructure and facilities over the past decade (source). Apparently 62 percent of locals ride a bike daily to work or education in the city while just nine percent drive – that’s why there are very few cars in the streets of Copenhagen. Great example that I hope many cities will follow! 🙂
Rowerowe miasto
Rowery, rowery wszędzie w Kopenhadze: o każdej porze i w każdej pogodzie – to zrobiło na mnie największe wrażenie! Bardzo niewiele miejsc na świecie stawia na innowacje pod kątem rowerów tak bardzo jak Kopenhaga, w której w ciągu ostatniej dekady zainwestowano 150 milionów dolarów na infrastrukturę i obiekty dla rowerów (źródło). Nic więc dziwnego, że 62% mieszkańców miasta jeździ na co dzień do pracy czy szkoły rowerem, a samochód wybiera zaledwie 9% – dlatego też na ulicach Kopenhagi jest naprawdę niewiele samochodów. Świetny przykład dla innych miast! 🙂
Nyhavn
Nyhavn Waterfront is probably the most distinctive place in Copenhagen. It was built in 17th century and nowadays it’s one of the most vibrant places in the city. The colourful buildings around the waterfront look really amazing especially when the weather is good!

Nadbrzeże Nyhavn to chyba najbardziej charakterystyczne miejsce w Kopenhadze. Zostało ono zbudowane w XVII w. i jest to dziś jedno z najżywszych miejsc w tym mieście. Kolorowe budynki wokół nabrzeża wyglądają wspaniale, zwłaszcza w pięknej, słonecznej aurze!
Christiania
Freetown Christiania is another well known part of Copenhagen and one of Denmark’s most popular tourist attractions. It is an autonomous anarchist district founded in 1971. Since its creation is has been quite controversial, especially because of to the permanent stalls along Pusher Street—or ‘The Green Light District’ that sell all types of cannabis (illegal elsewhere in Denmark). Now apparently the police is in place to disallow the trade and use of hard drugs.
In Freetown Christiania you can find 3 groups of people: high residents of the district, drug dealers and – the biggest group – tourists. You can take photos anywhere except Pusher Street. Apart drugs, Christiania is also full of graffiti and murals as well as of little shops selling hippie souvenirs. To me the place looked rather sad and creepy despite colourful street art and definitely not a hippy paradise.

Wolne Miasto Christiania to kolejna znana część Kopenhagi i jedna z najchętniej odwiedzanych atrakcji turystycznych Danii. To autonomiczne, anarchistyczne osiedle utworzone w 1971. Od samego początku było ono dość kontrowersyjne, głównie ze względu na ciągłą obecność targowiska na Pusher Street, czyli tak zwanej “Dzielnicy Zielonych Latarni”, na którym są sprzedawane wszystkie typy marihuany (nielegalnej w innych częściach Danii). Obecne ponoć policja pilnuje, by handel i używanie twardych narkotyków nie miało tam miejsca.
W Wolnym Mieście Christiania są zazwyczaj trzy grupy ludzi: naćpani mieszkańcy osiedla, dilerzy narkotyków i – przede wszystkim – turyści. Niemal wszędzie (poza Pusher Street) można robić zdjęcia. Christiania jest także pełna graffiti i murali, są tam także sklepiki, w których kupić można hippisowskie pamiątki. W moim odczuciu to miejsce wygląda raczej smutno i przerażająco pomimo kolorowej sztuki ulicznej – zdecydowanie nie jest to hippisowski raj.
Rosenborg
Rosenborg is a Renaissance castle that looks really beautiful especially on sunny days! It is located in a park in central Copenhagen. Rosenborg is open to the public for tours and houses a museum exhibiting the Royal Collections from the late 16th century to the 19th century.

Rosenborg to renesansowy zamek, który wygląda wyjątkowo pięknie w słonecznej aurze! Znajduje się w parku nieopodal centrum Kopenhagi. Rosenborg jest otwarty dla turystów oraz mieści muzeum, w którym obejrzeć można królewską kolekcję z od XVI w. do XIX w.
The Little Mermaid
Unveiled on 23 August 1913, The Little Mermaid was a gift from Danish brewer Carl Jacobsen (son of the founder of Carlsberg) to the City of Copenhagen. The statue was inspired by Hans Christian Andersen’s fairy tale. Apparently Jacobsen fell in love with the character after watching a ballet performance based on the fairy tale.
The little mermaid has several times been the victim of vandalism. Twice she has lost her head, once the arm was sawn off, and several times she has had paint poured on her – but every time she is rescued and restored 🙂
Mała Syrenka
Odsłonięty w 23 sierpnia 1913 r., pomnik Małej Syrenki był prezentem dla miasta Kopenhagi od duńskiego piwowara Carla Jakobsena (syna założyciela Carlsberga). Pomnik ten był zainspirowany przez baśń Hansa Christiana Andersena. Ponoć Jakobsen zakochał się w postaci syrenki po obejrzeniu baletu zainspirowanego baśnią.
Mała Syrenka była kilkukrotnie ofiarą wandalizmu. Dwa razy odcięto jej głowę, raz rękę, a także kilka razy wylano na nią farbę – za każdym razem była jednak uratowana i odnowiona 🙂

And another woman of Copenhagen: Valkyrie – Norse mythology figure. This popular statue is located in Churchill Park.
Walkiria
I jeszcze jedna kobieta Kopenhagi: Walkiria – postać z mitologii nordyckiej. Ten znany posąg znajduje się w Parku Churchilla.
