Germany is probably one of most underrated European destinations. 10 days ago, when I arrived to Freiburg I was surprised to find out that there were hardly any tourists even though the town is really charming and definitely worth visiting.
Freiburg was founded in the 12th century and is known for reconstructed medieval old town full of picturesque brooks as well as for being a vibrant university town.
Niemcy to chyba jeden z najbardziej niedocenianych europejskich kierunków. 10 dni temu, gdy przyjechałam do Freiburga, byłam zaskoczona jak mało turystów było w tym uroczym, z pewnością wartym odwiedzenia mieście.
Freiburg został założony w XII w. i słynie z odbudowanego średniowiecznego starego miasta, przez które przepływa sieć kanałów oraz szczyci się mianem żywego ośrodka akademickiego.
What to see in Freiburg?
One of the main highlights of Freiburg is Freiburg Minster, its cathedral, which is the only gothic church in Germany that was completed in Middle Ages and has lasted until now. It survived the bombing raids of the IIWW which destroyed many of the Freiburg buildings.
Co trzeba zobaczyć będąc we Freiburgu?
Jedną z głównych atrakcji Freiburga jest tamtejsza katedra – jedyny w Niemczech gotycki kościół, którego budowa zakończyła się w Średniowieczu i który dotrwał do dziś. Katedra przetrwała bombardowania Drugiej Wojny Światowej, które doszczętnie zniszczyły wiele budynków miasta.
When visiting Freiburg you should definitely head to Schloßberg, a hill that overlooks the city centre, and enjoy the beautiful view from there. Walk from the old town to the top of Schloßberg is about 20 minutes (depending of course on your walk pace and on how many times you’ll stop on the way to take pictures 🙂 ).
Bedąc we Freiburgu trzeba koniecznie wybrać się na Schloßberg – wzgórze tuż nad centrum miasta – by móc podziwiać stamtąd piękną panoramę. Spacer ze starego miasta na Schloßberg to ok. 20 minut (zależy oczywiście jak szybko chodzisz i ile razy zatrzymasz się po drodze, by zrobić zdjęcia 🙂 ).
Freiburg is a charming town and wadering through its streets is a great way to explore the place. During your stroll you can admire for example Martin’s Gate, a fomer town fortification. If you get hungry, you can grab a pretzel – you can buy pretzels in literally every bakery in Freiburg 🙂
Freiburg to urocze miasteczko, a swobodna przechadzka po jego uliczkach to świetny sposób, by poznać to miejsce “od środka”. Spacerując po mieście można podziwiać np. Martinstor – starą bramę miejską. A jeśli zgłodniejesz, możesz po drodze złapać precla – ten niemiecki specjał znaleźć można w naprawdę każdej piekarni we Freiburgu :)
Why going to Freiburg?
Freiburg can be a great idea for a city break (especially in late November/December if you want to enjoy the Christmas Markets’ atmosphere) if you’re not a fan of popular, crowded cities or a weekend trip spent in three different countries. Yes, that’s right: you can fly to Basel, spend some time in Switzerland, then head to Freiburg and then France for a little visit. Reaching each place from another won’t take more than one hour.
Dlaczego Freiburg?
Freiburg to świetny pomysł na krótką, miejską wyprawę (zwłaszcza pod koniec listopada albo w grudniu ze względu na jarmarki bożonarodzeniowe) dla osób, które nie przepadają za zatłoczonymi, popularnymi kierunkami podróży. Poza tym można też wkomponować Freiburg w weekendową wycieczkę do trzech krajów – tak, zgadza się, tam jest to możliwe! Wystarczy polecieć po Bazylei i spędzić część czasu w Szwajcarii, później udać się do Freiburga, a następnie do Francji. Dojazdy między tymi miejscami nie zajmą nam dłużej niż godzinę.
What could have gone better in Freiburg?
I definitely enjoyed the weekend in Freiburg but I must admit the stay there wasn’t perfect. There were some little unpleasant surprises: in many places I couldn’t pay by card (even in the cafe at the train station), not everyone speaks English and unfortunately the Freiburg people aren’t very friendly. Still, it was a lovely stay and I’d recommend visiting this charming German Town! 🙂
A co mogło pójść lepiej we Freiburgu?
Spędziłam przemiły weekend we Freiburgu, ale muszę przyznać, że nie był on idealny. Wśród kilku niemiłych niespodzianek był fakt, że w wielu miejscach nie można płacić kartą (nawet w kawiarni na dworcu!), nie wszyscy mówią po angielsku i – niestety – mieszkańcy Freiburga nie należą do najprzyjaźniejszych osób na świecie. Ale cóż, i tak było warto odwiedzić to miejsce! 🙂
